José Antonio Fernández Jaquete

José Antonio Fernández-Jaquete received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Dayton and earned his law degree from the University of Puerto Rico. He served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Justo Arenas, United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico.

Mr. Fernández-Jaquete covers a broad range of matters within the corporate law area, with an emphasis on real estate and insurance. He has extensive experience in title coverage issues, having represented title insurance companies for more than 20 years.  He has worked with real estate developers and non-profit entities in the development of mixed-use projects, hotels, natural reserves, and renewable energy projects.  He is also experienced in corporate mergers and acquisitions, and commercial contracts.  He has also worked with international law firms as Puerto Rico counsel on the corporate reorganization of several multi-nationals.  He provides legal advice on regulatory and compliance to several insurance companies and other entities subject to insurance regulations.  Mr. Fernández regularly provides advice to corporate clients regarding corporate governance.

Mr. Fernández-Jaquete participated in the negotiation of the lease and construction agreements necessary for the first commercial aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul facility established in Puerto Rico. 

He also represented the lenders in the financing and partial refinancing of the public-private partnership for the operation of Toll Roads PR-5 and PR-22, and in the financing of the public-private partnership for the operation of Toll Roads PR-20, PR-52, PR-53 and PR-66,  the largest public-private project to date in Puerto Rico. 

Mr. Fernández has developed a niche in the resolution of complex real property title issues, assisting clients to achieve the recordation of a variety of residential, commercial and mixed-use projects in situations where the recordation has been held up by permitting issues, defective documentation, or legacy title issues, and providing support to the Litigation Practice Group in a myriad of cases. Mr. Fernández-Jaquete is a shareholder in, and co-chair of, ADSUAR’s Corporate Department.
